Sucker is that album—the one that made it clear Charli XCX was not here to follow pop rules, but to blow them up with glitter and a middle finger. Nearly a decade later, it still hits. It’s bratty, loud, fearless, and bursting with hooks that get stuck in your head for days—and honestly, that’s exactly why I love it so much. From the opening scream of the title track “Sucker,” you know you’re in for a ride. The guitars are crunchy, the choruses are massive, and Charli is full-on punk-pop princess mode. “Break the Rules” is an anthem for anyone who’s ever wanted to skip class and start a revolution in platform boots, while “Boom Clap” somehow manages to be both romantic and stadium-ready. And let’s not even start on “Doing It”—that song is a perfect synth-pop daydream. What’s so fun about Sucker is how unapologetically bold it is. Charli’s personality is front and center—sassy, sharp, playful, and way ahead of her time. You can hear the early hints of her experimental edge, but here it’s wrapped in bubblegum and wrapped in attitude. She’s giving 2000s teen movie soundtrack and underground rebel queen all at once. This album was such a moment, and honestly, it still feels fresh. It’s pop music with a punk spirit, and it’s Charli’s charisma and vision that makes it all click. Sucker isn’t just an album—it’s a sugar-high, hair-flipping, rule-breaking mood. And I’ll always be obsessed.
