Even with the band swapping ear-splitting walls of sound and chugging riffs for a more subdued semi-acoustic approach, Alice in Chains created a grunge masterpiece with deep and powerful lyricism and imagery combined with masterful songwriting. Songs such as “Nutshell” and “Don’t Follow” mix AiC’ signature grunge sound with other elements such as blues and country, resulting in an EP with a varied yet cohesive sound, creating an atmospheric, introspective listening experience unlike anything their Seattle-based peers released.
