Talk about pressure. Lorde’s 2013 debut, ‘Pure Heroine’, saw the New Zealand teen – real name Ella Yellich-O’Connor – lauded by the press, praised by David Bowie (he believed she was the “future of music”, according to a former member of his band), inducted into Taylor Swift’s squad and hailed as nothing less than the voice of the millennial generation. It’s a list that couldn’t fail to have an e

“I’m 19 and I’m on fire!” sings Lorde on ‘Perfect Places’, ‘Melodrama’’s finale, summarising succinctly the preceding 40 minutes of glee and insecurity, passion and paranoia: on her second album, she seeks to articulate the unbearable emotional heaviness of being on the brink of adulthood, and of all the yearning, identity crises and self-examination that that entails. That she manages it with sin

For a young artist at the height of success by adolescence, Lorde's four-year gap between records could have been catastrophic; it's easy for the world to lose interest when there is constantly so much to consume.   But then, Lorde has never been one to fit the mould. The now 20-year-old exudes a level of wisdom and introspectiveness that isn't commonly found among her peers. Taking time in betwee

Lorde’s new album Virgin is a triumph of introspection and innovation. With her signature haunting vocals and deeply poetic lyrics, she takes us on a mesmerizing journey through themes of self-discovery, love, and the complexities of modern life. The production is experimental yet accessible, with electronic beats blending seamlessly into lush, atmospheric soundscapes that make each track feel like an intimate conversation. Songs like “Ember” and “Sublime” are standouts, showcasing her ability to merge vulnerability with bold, unflinching honesty. The album is a beautiful evolution of Lorde’s artistry, filled with raw emotion and sophistication. It’s clear that she’s not just evolving; she’s pushing boundaries. Virgin is not only a reflection of where she is now but a glimpse into where she’s headed — and it’s exciting. A near-perfect addition to her discography.

Possibly Lorde’s most transparent album as she allows listeners access into her innermost thoughts and experiences. This album also feels like a return to her roots while continuing to progress forward in her sound as an artist. TOP 3 🥇Shapeshifter 🥈What Was That? 🥉Perfect Daughter
