The Drums
“One of indie pop's most promising bands navigates the tension between its populist and insular tendencies on its sure-to-break-out LP.”
Abysmal Thoughts
“The Drums continue to perfect their 1980s-inspired indie pop formula on their latest album, while adding some dark humor to the mix.”
Portamento
“Despite the well-fed egos, Jonathan Pierce and co.'s new album-- one that features ugly, petty, real emotion and multiple references to death or dying-- is a smaller, more intimate record than last year's self-titled predecessor.”
Jonny
“Jonny is The Drums’ cathartic sonic biography”
Abysmal Thoughts
“The Drums take an unexpected step on Abysmal Thoughts”
Abysmal Thoughts
“The track titles on The Drums’ new record are, unsurprisingly given the album title, pretty depressing. See, for example ‘Blood Under My Belt’, ‘Head of the Horse’, ‘Are U Fucked’, and my favourite, ‘Shoot the Sun Down’, which is pretty much just the refrain ‘I put a blanket over my face’ repeated for three and half minutes. It’s the kind of song you want to play on repeat when your wife has left ”
