The State Between Us (feat. Matthew Herbert)
“The producer and DJ’s guest-packed “Brexit album” conjures a great sprawl of humor and tragedy that makes for Herbert’s richest album in years.”
Goodbye Swingtime
“Matthew Herbert's last proper full-length, 2001's exceptional *Bodily Functions*, mixed squishy vocal house music with acoustic jazz instrumentals. The occasionally jarring transitions between the house tracks and the jazz bits bothered some people, but I thought they worked despite the vastly different production. In addition to just sounding good mashed up against each other, I enjoyed listening”
There's Me and There's You
“The second album from Matthew Herbert's Big Band outfit; as the handle implies, there's an aesthetic shift from electronic music to avant-jazz at play here, but these are also songs with stronger, more overtly global and political themes than he's ever explored before.”
Wavelength is the Letterboxd for music.
