Jean by Yebba Its been a week since Yebba has released her latest project ‘Jean’ and its time to jump into a review. Yebba’s lead single for the project “Yellow Eyes” had caught traction in my personal rotation following its drop about two weeks prior to the projects’ release itself. ‘Yellow Eyes’ features raspy layered vocals over a beautifuly plucked acoustic guitar and a spaced out booming drum kick that seems to wrap it all together. I was pretty blown away initially listening to this song. However following the release one of the tracks that caught my attention the most was the one following Yellow Eyes on the tracklist in ‘Alright’. Now while the songs title is bland, the contents this cut contains is not. From an intense rise in vocals to a beautiful blossom that feels addicting to listen to in the chorus. Yebba has other highlights on this project such as ‘aggressive’ where I feel I’m listening to a much less raunchy Lola Young song. Yebba Kills this track. Falling into the ladder half of the tracklist we can find a deepcut in ‘Waterfall’ with a hook fitting enough to be one of those Drake interludes that is entirely another artist and end up inadvertently being the best track on his album. Regardless, this song is smooth. Its catchy. Its a night time drive. Further on to the second half of the tracklist, we have two interludes taking up some space, Seven years is an emotional cut thats not my personal favorite. However there have been a few spins where it strikes a few emotions. Howver the hook is not my personal favorite from Yebba when it comes to this project and I do find this one to be a more forgettable track. Overall Yebba came back with a story to tell, and at that she did it rather well on this LP and for that im feeling an 8.6 How did you feel? Remember its only been a week & opinions can change. Be kind, have a great day.
