Lost Americana finds Machine Gun Kelly continuing his evolution, blending heartland rock, alt-pop, and traces of his pop-punk energy into a reflective, road-trip-ready soundtrack. There’s an undeniable sense of ambition here—MGK leans into storytelling, pulling from personal chapters of heartbreak, recovery, and searching for purpose. Tracks like “Can’t Stay Here” and “Miss Sunshine” hit with emotional honesty, while “Vampire Diaries” shows he hasn’t lost his knack for hooks that stick. That said, not every song lands. A few mid-album cuts feel more like filler than statement pieces, and some genre shifts come off more cautious than daring. Still, when MGK locks into that balance of grit and vulnerability, the results are moving and memorable. It’s not a perfect record, but Lost Americana proves he’s still willing to take creative risks, even if some pay off more than others a solid entry for fans who’ve followed his winding journey.

After a tumultuous year, Colson Baker sends his emotions screaming through the entire mainstream rock canon. It hardly works at all, but the album’s mere existence is genuinely fascinating.

The changeable star gets personal, channels Springsteen and Mellencamp, and keeps refusing to sit still
