I believe that The Tortured Poets Department is an album that ultimately becomes redundant. It is excessively long, not due to a lack of narrative material, but because it attempts to accommodate too many stories that are only loosely connected to the album’s central concept. This excess weakens its thematic cohesion. The album also suggests a lack of editorial restraint, indicating that Swift’s creative decisions may benefit from greater critical oversight from her team. As a result, several tracks feel underdeveloped or ultimately inconsequential within her discography. Nevertheless, the album also contains some of Swift’s strongest songwriting to date, particularly in songs such as “Chloe et al.,” “loml,” and “Guilty as Sin?”
