Rhye are Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Milosh and Danish producer-songwriter Robin Hannibal – but you’d be forgiven for thinking their debut was the new Sade LP. Milosh’s androgynous voice bears a startling resemblance to that of the lite-soul queen, and he uses it deliciously, unspooling sultry whispers and coos over chill soul-jazz and r&b grooves draped in strings, harps, flutes and flugelhorns. The result is like a drag show on the S.S. Yacht Rock, but an exceptionally refined one. See “Last Dance,” where Milosh’s elongated “oooooo”s billow like a disco-fever dream of “More, More, More,” the 1977 hit by late porn star Andrea True. It’s fluffer funk of the first order.

Rhye's debut full-length is really great at conjuring a sexy vibe, but it can come off a bit one-dimensional at times.

Rhye is the project of singer/producer Mike Milosh and producer Robin Hannibal. Together, they make ethereal R&B focusing on world-tilting romantic experience, with gorgeous minimal production that leaves little space between the listener and the songs.
