My 21st Century Blues
RAYE (2023)
“(First Listen Review!) with her new album dropping tonight I had to tune in and wow. Before listening I had only known Oscar winning tears and escapism. However the amount of bangers that lie in this album truly made me realize just how much of an amazing artist Raye is now but also how long she’s been fighting to get to where she is now. For an album that took 7 years to make you can tell the passion poured out of this icon. My favorite of the album black mascara left me speechless with it’s production. And songs like body dysmorphia kicked me so hard down that I was full on sobbing (even if the production tried to not make it as depressing). Raye is something special. Cannot wait for her album this week. Top 3: Black Mascara, Escapism, Ice Cream Man.”

Raye is an artist who has had difficulties in her journey, but thankfully she overcome all adversity to release her debut album ‘My 21st Century Blues’, a genre bending opus with some incredibly layered vocals and lyrics about said adversities. It’s not just about her struggles as an artist but as a female artist. A highlight of the album is ‘Body Dysmorphia’, a song which sounds self explanatory on paper but ends up being deeper than you think with its experimental sounds. This is a remarkable debut album and proves that Raye is the best us Brits have
