Hudson Mohawke's world has been transformed in the years since the 2011 EP Satin Panthers. By teaming up with Canadian producer Lunice to form TNGHT, he reached a level of prominence that would have been unimaginable in 2009, when he was churning out zany pieces of purple on releases like the EP and debut full-length [](https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13557-butter/). When an unreleased TNGHT song called "R U Ready" served as the backbone for the titanic centerpiece of Kanye West's Yeezus, "Blood on the Leaves", it was the cherry on top of an astounding rise. Since then, Mohawke has racked up credits on track "I Am a God", Drake's "Connect", and Pusha T's "Hold On", meaning that he had a hand in highlights from three of 2013's biggest rap records. Where he was once bandied about by tastemakers as a potentially innovative force in hip-hop production, he's now earned the opportunity to do so at the genre's highest possible level. Acting as a possible precursor to Mohawke's next, perpetually delayed full-length—he told the NME in March 2013 the album was coming out later that year—the  EP is his first true solo record in over three years, serving as evidence of just how much he's grown in the time since.
