This album is seriously next‑level country/soul/roots music. It doesn’t just have great songs,it feels like a complete emotional journey that you get even the first time you hear it. The way Stapleton uses his voice is insane, it’s gritty, real, and layered with feeling on every track. The pacing is thoughtful, the album moves from introspection to strength to pain and back again without ever feeling boring or repetitive. The production is clean but soulful, and every instrument feels placed with intention. There’s no filler, and every song feels like it matters, which makes it way more than just a playlist of good tracks. The only reason it doesn’t hit a perfect 10 is that it’s slightly more subtle than explosive overall, but that subtlety is also part of what makes it feel grown, deep, and real. It’s the kind of record that stays with you long after it ends.

The best voice in Nashville doesn't stray far from his proven formula on his soulful fifth LP, and that's fine

The Kentucky singer/songwriter’s charming, gravelly voice and authentic roots shine through on his highly anticipated fifth LP—and his first since winning three Grammy Awards for his 2020 album Starting Over.
