For a dude who gets big laughs on NBC's Community, Donald Glover sure fiends for approval on his debut. One minute he's dropping hornball come-ons, the next he's arguing that a "nerdy-ass black kid" deserves to rap at all. There are breathless zingers: "I sound weird like nigga with a hard 'r'," he raps on the bare-bones synth jam "Bonfire," one of the few beats on this mostly self-produced album that doesn't copycat Kanye West's Dark Twisted Fantasy. As Kanye will be glad to tell you, there’s only one Yeezy.
