“Thundercat's muddy mixes remain his Achilles' heel on the otherwise enjoyable It Is What It Is.”

Genuinely one of my top ten albums I’ve listened to. Thundercat is one of the highest regarded bass players of all time, and it really shows on this album. It is so difficult to choose one list of my top three because of how extraordinary this album truly is, so I’m just going to choose three of the many songs I love. I really specifically adore Funny Thing, Dragonball Durag, and It Is What It Is (my love for Funny Thing might just be nostalgia from watching CoryxKenshin, but I digress) When I first saw the track list of this album, I really thought that Black Qualls would have been more popular, solely because of the features, but I was truly surprised when it wasn’t. I think this album is really a gem, especially considering that everything was shut down for Covid when this released. Overall, great album, and deserves more recognition. Would listen again.
