Deerhunter mash together garage fuzz, folky quietude, power-pop melody and electronic clatter — art-rock experiments that deliver the satisfying gut punch of pop tunes. The songs drip with melancholy; "He Would Have Laughed" is an elegy for the late Jay Reatard. But Deerhunter make the sadness sublime. "Is there anyone who wants to see the sun go down?" asks singer Brandon Cox in "Memory Boy." It's a lovely view.
