In comparison to 2007's Spirit If..., the Broken Social Scene leader's second solo album doesn't feel like the work of a band. Synth-heavy and prone to slow-building torch songs, Darlings turns out to be a fine showcase for Drew's expressive voice and distinctive obsessions.
