Coming into Middle Of Nowhere as someone who’s been locked in with Kacey Musgraves since Golden Hour, this feels like a full-circle moment. Instead of chasing that same polished, dreamy pop-country blend, she strips things back and leans into her roots, more grounded, more country at its core, and way more intimate. The songwriting is still her strongest weapon. She has that effortless way of turning everyday thoughts into something quietly profound, but here it feels even more personal, like she’s reconnecting with the kind of storytelling that first defined her. The production follows suit—simpler, warmer, and less glossy…which really lets her voice and lyrics take center stage. It’s not an album built on big, instant standouts, and that might throw some people off, especially if you came in expecting another Golden Hour. But the beauty of Middle Of Nowhere is in how unforced it feels. It’s reflective, a little understated, and rooted in the sound that made her special in the first place. Not her most explosive project, but one that feels honest and that counts for a lot.

I think I’ll always mourn the fact that Kacey Musgrave wrote Golden Hour about a man and then divorced him
