A mixture of creepy and cute Crybaby defines an era in Melanie’s art where she found her footing perfectly on her first attempt. Even looking at the titles alone you can tell exactly what she wanted people to expect and how to flip it on its head. One of my favorites sippy cup, is a dark fantasy that flips the sippy cup imagery into an alcoholic murder scene leaving the listener into a new world. All the best people are crazy but this album is too; there’s a reason why it’s well regarded as one of the best concept and debut albums of all time. And it’s not missing its hit songs either; play date, pity party, and soap ran the charts over the past few years. With play date resurrected in 2021.
