Mac Miller (2018)
“A truly incredible album, the easiest 10/10 you’ll find. Come Back To Earth perfect intro, a completely different Mac Miller to all his previous work straight off the bat. Nice soft chords and synths create an amazing vibe paired with Mac’s more melancholy tone and a theme of Mac dealing and battling his depression. Hurt Feelings A more hip hop and rapping approach from Mac on this track over some great production from J.Cole, still with this more melancholy and downbeat vibe. What’s The Use? An amazing track with incredible production, with a more upbeat mood on this track. Lyrics from Mac are great and the production from Thundercat with the deep funky bass guitar paired with similar synthy notes found on ‘The Divine Feminine’. Perfecto Again back to the more Melancholy, chilled out sound on this track from Mac with the production and writing. Self Care Next level from Mac. Production on the first half of the song is great with another helpless feeling with Mac’s writing but the second half beat switch is unreal with Mac almost coming to his senses and finally relaxing with a much more uplifting feeling to the song. Wings Such a great track. Much more chilled out compared to the previous four songs, almost like a comedown from the high at the end of the previous track ‘Self Care’. Ladders A much more upbeat feeling to this song compared to the last and a lot more uplifting with the writing from Mac and also with the production with a more groovy vibe with trumpets included in the instrumental. Small World Again a much more upbeat vibe on this track from Mac. Conversation Pt. 1 Almost stepping away from the album itself, Mac has a more introspective and conscious approach on this track. Dunno On this track Mac reflects on his past failed relationship (presumably with Ariana Grande) over a downbeat, lowkey production, paired with some lowkey rapping and some drawn out vocals as well. With the end of the song coming in with a more hopeful end that the relationship could be saved. Jet Fuel Some really good rapping and writing from Mac on Jet Fuel, again following a more downbeat, lowkey vibe. 2009 A beautiful track with some really great writing from Mac over a light upbeat piano, making a much more hopeful feel. So It Goes Incredible from Mac. The prefect outro for the perfect album. Starting with these heavy, repetitive drums over a trippy string in the background with Mac laying all his feelings out, his exhaustion, insecurities, trust issues, relationships. Then the beat slowly building and building with Mac’s rapping becoming more loopy and almost delirious. Then Mac starting the hook for the last time, these amazing synths begin take over, getting louder and louder until they are the sole sound on the song. Again getting louder and more intense then finally mellowing out in a grand finale. In my opinion Mac creating what ascending into heaven would sounds like, which is truly heartbreaking in hindsight with this being the last album Mac Miller would release before his tragic untimely passing. Miss you Mac heart🤍”
