Even the ellipsis in the title is millennial. luck... or something, Hilary Duff's fifth studio album and first in over a decade, starts the same way all albums start: with an opening track. Here, the bouncy "Weather for Tennis" has the burden of trying to make up for a decades long absence of new Duff music — and it does its job, the inner workings of Duff's marital spats with producer Matthew Kom

The Disney star’s first album in over a decade resurrects the buoyant pop of 2003’s Metamorphosis, pushing it forward for a new generation. Still, the album’s “mature comeback” offerings never fully deliver.

On her first album since 2015, the Lizzie McGuire actress cowrites and collaborates with her husband on fizzy, centrist pop from the crossroads of autobiography and universality.

It’s not news when you got into bed! rails Duff against the Paris Hiltons of the world, over Gwen Stefani-style techno-lite beats. For her fourth record, the nineteen-year-old Duff set out to make an adult dance-pop record, with surprisingly successful results. "You’re not the person that I once knew," she sings on "Stranger," presumably speaking […]

Don’t be mad at the rocks that she got — mass-media assassin Hilary Duff wants to be a music star, too, and the Lizzie McGuire star’s backers have shelled out for some of the best pop songwriting on the market. The snoozers here ("Party Up") are outnumbered by likely hits: The excellent "Where Did I […]

Luck… or something by Hilary Duff feels like catching up with an old friend you grew up idolizing. As someone who’s followed her from Disney Channel days to her early pop era, there’s something instantly comforting about her voice that is soft, sweet, and familiar. The album has flashes of that nostalgic sparkle that made Metamorphosis-era Hilary so special, especially in the breezier, feel-good tracks. That said, not every song hits as hard as I wanted it to. Some moments feel a little safe, like they’re leaning more on charm than risk. But even when it plays it safe, there’s sincerity there and that’s always been Hilary’s secret weapon. It may not reinvent her sound, but it’s a warm reminder of why so many of us rooted for her in the first place.

Growing up on Disney Channel, Hilary Duff wasn’t just a pop star…she was a whole era. So revisiting Metamorphosis hits with a wave of pure nostalgia… but musically, it’s a mixed bag. There’s no denying how massive and defining “So Yesterday” and “Come Clean” felt at the time — glossy, teen-pop anthems that practically raised a generation. But beyond those standouts, the album leans heavily on early-2000s pop formulas that don’t always hold up. The vocals are sweet but limited, and some of the deeper cuts blur together. Still, Metamorphosis captures that innocent, diary-entry energy that made Hilary so relatable. It’s not a groundbreaking pop record, but as a time capsule of Disney Channel’s golden era? It’s undeniable!

i’ve been waiting for a new hilary album for years and she did NOT disappoint. the production and her vocals sounded so fresh and i really appreciate how honest and straightforward she was in her lyrics - you don’t really get much of that in music lately. i really hope this time she’s here to stay!
