“What i just love about this song is that it shows that Beyoncé still got balls which is really rare in this industry. This song is about killing off a fake version of America and calling out who has been excluded from its promises. It questions patriotism, belonging, and power without trying to sound polite about it. The title uses “requiem” to signal a funeral for that mythic America everyone pretends still works. Listening to it feels serious and confrontational, like being forced to rethink what you were taught instead of just accepting it because she herself has experienced a feeling of exclusion of the country community while the community belongs to her history and her culture.”
