Ariana Grande (2018)
“Honestly, this album has moments that slap really hard and others that feel a bit all over the place. There’s a mix of pop, R&B, trap and experimental stuff that doesn’t always hang together the smoothest, so sometimes it feels more like random vibes than a cohesive record. When it’s good, it’s really good but some tracks drag or feel kinda just… there. I also think R.E.M. being a Beyoncé demo originally (it came from an unreleased Beyoncé/Pharrell song “Wake Up” before Ari made it her own) adds an interesting backstory and makes that track hit extra hard for fans who know that history.”

no tears left to cry is the best Ariana song imo

this has some of ariana’s stronger moments as an artist, tracks like no tears left to cry, get well soon, and better off. but then there’s tracks that just don’t feel authentic to her, like blazed, and the light is coming.
