Currents
“Nearly every song on Currents is a statement of leader Kevin Parker's range and increasing expertise as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and a vocalist. Parker is writing pop songs here, and doing them justice, and Currents is the result of a supernaturally talented obsessive trying to perfect music.”
Currents
“Kevin Parker expands his world to accommodate R&B grooves for the downtown clubs”
Lonerism
“Tame Impala's second full-length, Lonerism, will once again be compared to albums from the late 1960s and early 70s. But the project is exciting because, by maximizing the use of the available technology, it taps into the progressive and experimental spirit of psychedelic rock, and not just the sound.”
Currents
“Change is a good thing on Tame Impala's Currents”
InnerSpeaker
“These Australians have crafted an assured and accomplished album that integrates an array of psych rock references into a powerful whole.”
The Slow Rush
“On his fourth album, Kevin Parker takes a breath and eases into a smoother psychedelic sound. Even without the adrenaline-filled highs, the compositions are as rich and thoughtful as ever.”
The Slow Rush
“**💭 Thoughts:** A solid album overall, and I love the use of synths throughout. That being said, I think the standout tracks do most of the heavy lifting on this LP. It’s not that the weaker songs are bad, they just feel a bit empty to me. I also think “The Boat I Row,” “No Choice,” and “Patience” from *The Slow Rush B-Sides and Remixes* deserved a spot on this album, as they would’ve made it much stronger overall. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) Lonerism
“**💭 Thoughts:** This album is just Kevin Parker taking every amazing thing from Innerspeaker, refining it, then turning it into another album. This is for sure one of my favorite psych rock albums. While Innerspeaker is still amazing, Lonerism just outdoes it in a lot of ways. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) Be Above It 🟠 2.) Endors Toi 🟣 3.) Apocalypse Dreams 🔵 4.) Mind Mischief 🟣 5.) InnerSpeaker
“**💭 Thoughts:** Tame Impala’s 2010 debut album *InnerSpeaker* takes heavy inspiration from the psychedelic rock of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and I can confidently say I love it. The use of phasers, fuzzed-out guitars, synths, and fill-heavy drums creates an immersive sound throughout. It’s one of my favorite neo-psychedelia albums, and it’s an amazing debut. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) It Is Not Meant to Be 🟣 2.) Desire Be Desire Go 🟢 3.) Alter Ego 🟣 4.) Lucidity 🔵 5.) Deadbeat
“**💭 Thoughts:** I think the experimentation on this album is just something people aren’t used to from Tame Impala. However, compared to his other albums, it’s most certainly his weakest. All the songs on this album are either a high or a low, with very little in between, making it a pretty inconsistent listen. That being said, the highs are excellent, and there are some genuinely great songs on here. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) My Old Ways 🟣 2.) No Reply 🟡 3.) Dracula 🟣 4.) Loser 🟣 5.) Oblivion 🟠 6.) Currents
“**💭 Thoughts:** *Currents* feels like drifting through space at the speed of light. The use of synths is something that Kevin Parker masterfully executed all throughout this album. One of the best alternative/psychedelic pop albums ever made, and everyone who loves music needs to listen to this at least once in their lifetime. **🎶 Tracklist Review** 1.) Let It Happen 🟣 2.) Deadbeat
“LISTENED: 10/17/2025 While there is a few quality songs (few being 3), listening to this album on release and seeing the roll-out in real time felt like a prank when the actual album dropped. Having the only few good songs on your new album be used as the singles for the roll-out is actually hilarious. Some (aka most) of these songs sound like demos, and I barely made it out of that 8-minute song alive.”
Currents
“Currents is a bold shift for Tame Impala…trading fuzzy guitars for synths and smooth, psychedelic pop. The production is dreamy and immersive, and Kevin Parker’s introspective lyrics hit at times. But while it’s beautifully crafted, some tracks blur together, losing the spark that made earlier work so distinct. Still, it’s an ambitious and emotional ride worth revisiting.”
Deadbeat
“Deadbeat delivers that classic Tame Impala haze—dreamy vocals, shimmering synths, and hypnotic grooves, but with a looser, rougher edge. Some tracks drift a bit too far into the fog, but the standout moments still hit that nostalgic, melodic sweet spot. Not his strongest work, but a solid vibe-heavy listen that’s easy to sink into”
